The Agricultural Appraisal Department is responsible for reviewing agricultural and wildlife applications submitted each year while also monitoring properties previously granted agricultural or wildlife valuations for continued compliance. New applications typically initiate an office review of the property record, followed by an inspection of the property(ies), and then a final determination on the application. Properties approved for agricultural valuation in prior years are periodically reviewed by viewing aerial photos and/or on-site inspections to ensure continued agricultural use.
Rollback determinations are also conducted through this department. If a property that is currently receiving an agricultural valuation is determined to have undergone a change in use, a rollback is issued on the property to recover the difference between the taxes paid on the agricultural valuation and the taxes that would have been paid based on the market valuation.
Each year, the Agricultural Appraisal Department collects information on income and expenses from agricultural operations throughout the county to calculate the productivity values for each classification of agricultural land.
