We are pleased to share some excellent news! The Texas State Comptroller’s independent audit of our property values for 2024 has just been completed, and we are happy to report that all districts tested received local value certification. This means that the state has certified the values we have in place for our county are accurate, equitable, and reflect 100% market value.
The audit process ensures that property values are appraised consistently and fairly (equal and uniform) across various property types, house types, neighborhoods, and school districts. It covers a wide range of properties including city lots, vacant land, commercial and industrial properties, utilities, rural land, agricultural values, subdivision properties, and more.
Since 2021, the appraisal district has consistently received certification of local value for all districts, a testament to our dedication to accuracy and fairness.
It’s worth noting that the appraisal district undergoes an independent formal audit every year—one year on property values and the next on our methods and procedures. These are performed by the Texas Comptroller. We also have an independent government financial audit every year and have numerous checks and balances in place.
For context, the Property Value Study (PVS), conducted by the Comptroller, is designed to ensure that appraisal districts are within a 5% margin of error compared to the state’s determined values. Successfully passing the study is crucial, as failing it two years in a row would result in reduced state funding for local school districts.
